Java Backend Developer – Brussels

International client based in Brussels is seeking a Java Backend Developer to join the team on a hybrid working contract assignment. Initial contract is for 110 working days with extensions to follow. Candidates must be EU citizens for this role.
Key tasks and responsibilities:
- Development of back-end website applications.
- Integration of user-facing elements developed by a front-end developers with server side logic.
- Creation of servers and databases for functionality.
- Design and implementation of data storage solutions.
- Understanding and implementation of security and data protection.
- Optimization of the application for maximum speed and scalability.
- Design and develop APIs.
- Participating in the design and creation of scalable software.
- Maintenance of code integrity and organisation.
- Writing clean, functional code on the back-end.
- Compile and analyse data, processes, and codes to troubleshoot problems and identify areas for improvement.
- Testing and fixing bugs or other coding issues and write technical documentation.
Required skills and experience:
- Master’s degree in IT field with minimum of 13 years of relevant experience (or Bachelor’s degree with minimum of 17 years of relevant experience).
- At least 10 years of specific expertise in J2EE Java, with SPRING framework, WebLogic and API/REST/SOAP.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in SQL/PLSQL.
- Strong experience in data modelling and database design techniques and tools (e.g. SQL Developer Data Modeler, Hackolade, NoSQL Workbench).
- Strong experience in development tools (e.g. Oracle SQL Developer) and relational database systems (e.g. Oracle).
- At least 1 year experience with NODE and Subversion/Git.
- Previous experience with Agile methodology.
- Exposure in front-end technologies (i.e. Angular, HTML5, CSS, XML, JavaScript, JQuery).
- Excellent English (C-level, written and spoken).
